Food lovers will find plenty of reasons to indulge in the local Kodava cuisine that features local veggies (bamboo shoots, colocassia leaves), spices and berries, and is a treat for meat lovers too. An absolute must-try is pandi curry, which is a slow-cooked pork dish made with a local vinegar called kachampuli.Other treats include akki roti, kadambuttu (rice balls) and jackfruit curry.

4. Visit Bylakuppe

Bylakuppe is a Tibetan settlement that is about 40 km away from Coorg and makes for a great half-day visit. The star attraction here is the Golden Temple or Namdroling Monastery with its stunning architecture. While there, don’t forget to indulge in the local Tibetan food such as thukpas and momos.

5. Make your way to the waterfalls

Other than the breathtaking hills, Coorg also spoils you with its range of spectacular waterfalls. Some of them are popular tourist spots and hence are crowded, but there are also many secluded waterfalls that come by easy when you walk around. You must visit Abbey Falls, Iruppu Falls and Cheladara.

6. Try the local wines

Evenings in Coorg is never complete without sitting by a bonfire and sipping on a glass of local fruit wines. They need some getting used to but are definitely worth a try. They are available in numerous flavours – pineapple, strawberry, cherry, among others.
