Karan Johar’s ambitious film Kalank, starring Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, and Sonakshi Sinha will hit the screens on April 17.

On March 12, Karan Johar unveiled the teaser of his ambitious film Kalank, which stars Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha. The teaser received positive and glowing responses from the audience as well as Bollywood celebrities. Kalank is a pre-partition drama.

The shooting began last year and it was filmed across places like Hyderabad, Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, Kargil, and Indore. For the Mumbai schedule, the makers recreated a palace from the 1940s, which is situated in the middle of Old Delhi.

According to a report, they spent Rs 10 crore on the set. Explaining why the makers did not compromise on the budget, a source told a daily, “The Mumbai schedule which went on for a month was set in the studio. Karan who had conceptualized the film 15 years ago with his father, Yash Johar, didn’t want to compromise on any aspect.”

Last year, KJo revealed that Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Ajay Devgn, and Rani Mukerji were the original choices for the ambitious film. However, at the time, the film had budgetary constraints and the film was stalled.

Sharing the first look of Kalank, Karan had revealed that Kalank is the last film that he worked on, and it was his dream to bring this story to the audience.

“A film that was born in my heart and mind 15 years ago….a film I passionately believe in…the last film my father worked on before he left us….it was his dream to see this film come through…I couldn’t fulfill his dream then….my spirit was broken….but today his wish has found a relationship with celluloid….the story of turbulent relationships and eternal love has found a voice….the film has been woven, nurtured and visualized by ABHISHEK VARMAN….and the film Is KALANK!” Karan said in a statement.
